Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
The skin of the eyelids is very delicate. Because it is thinner
than the rest of your skin it is often the first place that signs of
sun damage and aging appear. This may result in droopiness
called ptosis, (pronounced “toe-sis”). Sagging lids can cause
a perpetual tired appearance and make you look older than you
feel. Severe ptosis may impair vision, a condition that can
impact daily living.
Fortunately this situation can be easily remedied. If you are
displeased with what you see in the mirror, you may want to
consider having your eyelids lifted. This procedure, also called
a lid tuck, or blepharoplasty, tightens the skin and muscles of
the eyelids to their normal, healthy position. It can take years off
your appearance, and restore a fresh alert appearance. If
blepharoplasty is being performed strictly for cosmetic reasons,
insurance usually does not pay. However when the eyelid position
is so poor that it obstructs vision most insurance plans will
authorize a lid lift, which can be done safely and quickly in our clinic.
Lower Eyelid Bags
Bags beneath the eyes are often an inherited trait, but they can also be corrected, simply and painlessly. Using
only mild sedation and a local anesthetic, this procedure is done without skin incisions or stitches to remove.
We often provide this service at the time of your eyelid lift. It is not usually covered by insurance.
Eyelash Problems
As we grow older the eyelashes may begin to turn in and rub against the eyes, causing redness, tearing, and
scratching that can damage the eye. Occasionally the lid margin may droop or turn out, exposing and drying eye
tissue. Both of these problems can be resolved with a brief, in office correction that leaves no scarring, restoring
comfort and a youthful appearance to your eyes.
Dermal Fillers
We can restore volume to skin, and reduce unwanted lines and wrinkles
using safe, natural dermal fillers such as Hylaform gel, Cosmoderm or
Zyderm. Injected directly into the skin with very fine needles, this in-office
treamtent restores volume to eliminate deep facial wrinkles or folds. The
effects last about twice as long as older, collegen treatments, typically six to
nine months.
Fresh Peel, Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing
Many factors affect the appearance of our skin as we age; sun, pollution,
alcohol, nicotine, and stress can all contribute to the formation of fine lines,
wrinkles and age spots. As we grow older our body’s production of collagen
diminishes, causing aging skin to become less firm and elastic. Eventually
deeper folds appear, accompanied by uneven skin tone or spots of darkened
pigment.
Laser skin resurfacing is a popular choice offered by Island Vision and
Cosmetic Center, to combat these signs of aging. The laser treatment re-
moves the top layer of skin and stimulates the production of a new layer of
fresh skin that is smoother and tighter.
With the introduction of the gentle Erbium laser “Fresh Peel” procedure, Dr.
Steiner’s patients experience excellent results with a safer treatment that
heals faster and is much more comfortable. The Erbium laser provides the
desired benefits without the painful deep burn or uncomfortable month-long
weeping and redness, common to older, CO2 laser procedures. Fresh Peel
can be used to treat most benign age-related skin changes. Done in the comfort of our Burien office, Fresh
Peel offers less post-operative redness and swelling, and more rapid healing than other methods of skin
resurfacing. Post treatment response is similar to a sunburn; redness will usually persist for about four days,
followed by a day of peeling. For maximum effect, the treatment may be repeated up to four times, one month
apart. Fresh Peel can be done annually to maintain the skin’s fresh appearance.
Because the Erbium laser stimulates the skin’s own production of new collagen, tightening, smoothing, and
elasticity of the skin continues to improve after treatment. Expect to see full results about four months
afterward. Fresh Peel Can is used to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, to minimize acne scars, and also to
refresh the delicate skin of the neck, chest, and back of the hands.
